My Journey

About Me
Hi, I’m Matt, and I run Rose & Pearl Woodworking from my workshop in rural Powys. My aim is simple: to create high-quality, functional wooden items using locally sourced, sustainable timber.
Before starting this journey, I earned a BA in Model Design and Special Effects from the University of Hertfordshire. I went on to work as a Mould Maker at Madame Tussauds and spent several years freelancing in the film industry, contributing to the Special Effects departments on productions like The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Everything changed in 2014 with the birth of my first daughter. The long hours and unpredictability of freelancing no longer suited my growing family. I began searching for a career that offered more stability and allowed me to be present at home.
During that transition, I started building furniture for our home and for family members — and quickly discovered a deep passion for woodworking.
Rose & Pearl Woodworking is named after my two daughters, whose arrivals inspired me to take this new path. Their names represent the heart and soul of everything I do — a commitment to craftsmanship, care, and purpose.
Woodworking has not only allowed me to bring my creative background into a new medium, but has also challenged me to grow and learn every day. Starting this business has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made, and I’m proud to create pieces that are made to last — with love, skill, and intention.
